So you’ve won a PE Pipeline Project… the next step is to make sure your welders have the right qualifications
Nothing slows down a project faster than discovering your crew doesn’t hold the qualifications required by the client, superintendent or asset owner.
If your team will be carrying out polyethylene (PE) electrofusion welding, it’s important to understand that while Australia does not have a specific PE welding licence, installers are expected to hold nationally recognised competencies to perform the work compliantly.
Industry standards referenced by the National Construction Code (NCC) and Plumbing Code require PE pipe jointing to be carried out by personnel who have been trained and assessed as competent.
For electrofusion welding, the recognised qualification is:
PMBWELD302E – Join Polyethylene Pipes Using Electrofusion Welding
If your project also includes butt welding, installers should hold:
PMBWELD301E – Butt Weld Polyethylene Plastic Pipelines
Whether you’re preparing a tender, mobilising a new crew or responding to client qualification requirements, having appropriately trained welders can help avoid compliance issues, project delays and questions during audits or inspections.
